SERVICES Many of our services are listed on the home page, but here we will add a little flesh to the bones:
Notebook & desktop setup
As previously mentioned, if you can't decide which one to go for, please ask. It won't surprise you to hear that laptops/notebooks now account for over 70% of the PC market - but they don't necessarily suit everyone. We will discuss your needs and quote you for a machine that meets them. Certain Retail chains [and websites] base the options on one question [normally 'how much are you looking to spend?'] *If you want us to source it, we will be pleased to do so. If you prefer to buy it yourself, that's fine as well. We will quote you to set it up, transfer data from an old machine, connect it to printers and broadband etc. If you take a manufacturer's warranty and it goes wrong, we will help you get it put right.
Hardware and Software upgrades We are often asked to 'upgrade' an old and slow-running PC. Occasionally it is worthwhile to the client to do so. More often than not - especially in view of the cost of parts for older machines [even if available!] and the ever-cheaper prices of new ones , it simply isn't. So we suggest they replace it. For the rest of the story, read the above from the *. The same also applies to software. Please don't try to run a modern game on a Windows 98 PC with a black and white graphics card. On the other hand customers often assume that upgrading to broadband requires a whole new machine.....
Networking - including Wireless It's a matter of fact that most of the broadband contracts until comparatively recently came with a single PC modem and no router. Now many customers are adding a wi-fi enabled laptop to the household installation, with nothing capable of working with it. We do as much work in this area as much of the rest put together! We will work with you to find a solution to fit your requirements.
Broadband installation There is currently a bewildering selection of broadband options - many with phone packages that defy analysis, to say nothing of current and future developments in the area of 'mobile' networking, wide-area wireless [wimax] and who knows what else? Some of these come complete with a 'self-install' package that is beyond the knowledge of the help-desk if it happens not to work. We say 'try it' [which we say to most things!] If it doesn't work, don't spend half of the rest of your life trying to get sympathetic support at £1.00 a minute - call us.
Internet and email solutions
What suits your needs best? Webmail or a package installed on your machine. How about anti-spam measures? What's the matter if you can receive but can't send, or webmail won't let you access the attachments, let alone download them? Who do you call? - Your ISP? Give us a try first.
Backup and Security solutions We could devote an entire website to this topic. We could divert you with endless accounts of data loss, and you might find the whole thing quite amusing - that is until it happens to you. Perceived wisdom is that it only needs to happen to you once. The great pity is that it should need this lesson to happen before you learn from it. If it has happened to you - you probably don't need our help! If it hasn't, give us a call.
SKYPE and other VOIP audio and video solutions Most big companies have already implemented integrated Voice-over-internet-protocol [VOIP] and standard telephony systems. To much of the rest of the world they remain a total mystery. To many SMEs and home users they could be the best thing since 'Button B' used to give you your money back if your phone call didn't connect. We can help to demystify.
Software We don't claim to know every piece of software ever written, but we do know the main generic groups, and what does what, and what is supposed to do what. More often than not, software is far more sophisticated than the majority of customers need. If you do need one of the top-flight graphics packages [maybe you've used it before] we won't argue. If you are not sure, tell us what it is you want to be able to do - we can often recommend very much cheaper alternatives which will probably do the bulk of what you require.
We would be pleased to count you as a 'customer'
| WHICH PRINTER? Which Printer? Our office has several, including an all-in-one on a shelf above a colour-laser. Which is best? Depends on what you want to do! That's why we have both, and that's why our people understand which o ne to route a job to. They only get grief if they: As anyone who 'does' printers will spot straight away, both models featured here are HP. That should not imply that there aren't some cracking printers from other suppliers - we have some of those as well! | THE ONE-STOP SHOP There is probably a group of single-product sales representatives fuming at the impertinence of this section, and who are just waiting to sell you their product to meet the individual need. Don't misunderstand - there are some brilliant products out there, and we often find ourselves saying 'Wow! at the sheer class of some of these. We also see an awful lot that are overpriced, incompetent, or which are totally out of perspective with the customer's requirements. May we just draw your attention to the following: Yes, we do have certain products or solutions that we will promote - usually because we see them as 'best of breed'. We do change, but only for very good reason. But products are changing from one minute to the next, and we have stay on our toes to make sure our recommendations stay current.
- Most of our existing customers are more than happy to trust us to give them something that suits their needs.
